Ciprel adds another 120MW to its Cote D’Ivoire power plant
Enabling the expansion of Ciprel Power Plant in Cote D’Ivoire from 432MW to 543MW
Ciprel’s expanded plant uses combined cycle technology that will save an estimated US$60 million a year in gas, allowing more of the country’s gas to be used on other projects and keeping emissions at the pre-expansion levels. The electricity generated could serve up to 2.8 million additional homes. At present, 30% of the population has no access to mains power.
Local people are involved in construction and when the plant is fully operational local people are to be trained to take over operations from expatriate workers.
The €253m upgrade of the Ciprel power plant in Cote D’Ivoire included a €30m loan from EAIF, signed in early 2014. Expanding Cote D’Ivoire’s generating capacity is a core component in sustaining post-conflict economic recovery and alleviating poverty.
